Biography:

Mahdi is an Advanced Research Fellow in Bioinformatics and Precision Medicine, with a background in clinical medicine. Mahdi completed his Medical Doctorate (MD) at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in Iran, followed by a faculty position at the Iranian Academic Center for Education, Culture, and Research. He then received the International Postgraduate Award from the University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia) to pursue a PhD focused on QTL mapping and transcriptomic analysis of cardiac septal defects. After earning his PhD in 2013, Mahdi joined QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in Brisbane, Australia, as a postdoctoral bioinformatician. There, he conducted research on the follow-up of breast cancer GWAS loci, particularly examining the role of non-coding variants in cancer risk and progression. In 2019, he joined Imperial College London as a Senior Scientist in Bioinformatics, where he worked on multi-omics analyses of Alzheimer’s disease. In 2021, Mahdi moved to the Department of Infectious Disease at Imperial College London as a Research Fellow in Systems Biology of Host-Pathogen Interaction. He later transitioned to an Advanced Research Fellow position in Bioinformatics and Precision Medicine in July 2022.
